A Business Support Fund was established by the iLembe Chamber of Commerce in response to a desire expressed by the public as well as businesses members of the Chamber to make contributions in support of the families of the deceased who lost their lives in the taxi accident on the 17th of August 2015.
The following Executive Committee and staff members of the Chamber will manage the distributions of the funds:
Dominic Collett (President)
Jane Wiltshire (Trustee)
Cobus Oelofse (CEO)
Ntombifuthi Mavundla (Business Support Co-ordinator)
Purpose of the Business Support Fund:
The purpose of the Business Support Fund is to ensure that the dependents of the deceased, that perished in this specific taxi accident, benefit from cash donations into the fund.
The distribution of cash donations are not intended to benefit any dependent/s disproportionally and the distribution of donations will thus consider and recognise any financial support and financial benefits that dependents might have received or benefitted from other sources. These sources might include funeral policies, Provident Fund pay-outs or funds/donations specifically established or made for the purpose of supporting any of the dependents of these deceased.
Fund administration and other expenses:
The administering and auditing of the fund will be conducted by C&H Accounting.
No administration fee will be charged for the administration of the fund. Shirley Stanley from C&H Accounting’s valuable contribution in this regard is acknowledged.
Where extra-ordinary expenses are incurred in relation to the management or distribution of the funds, such considerations will be deducted from any amount donated to the fund by the iLembe Chamber of Commerce, firstly.
Period allowed for donations:
Donations to the fund will close on the 18th of September 2015, a month after the accident.
All funds collected and donated by this date will be distributed to the dependents of the deceased, subject to the provisions above.
Once off nature of fund:
The establishment of this fund is a once-off initiative driven by the scale of the accident, the number of fatalities and its impact on the iLembe business community especially. The establishment of this fund does not create an expectation that the Chamber will either repeat this funding initiative in the future or assist any other dependents in this way at any time or circumstance in the future.
