Training that empowers local crèches

Early Childhood Development sets the foundation for a child’s education, holistic development and how they enter their future! TREE and The Ilembe Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Tourism formulated a strategy and implementation plan to improve the holistic development of the children and to uplift the Ilembe community at large with a focus on the KwaDukuza District.

Last week twenty-one ladies from the crèche that will be a part of the development programme spent a day at TREE to begin their valuable training that will make a tangible difference for the children’s education in each of the 21 crèches. Using recyclable materials each lady was taught how to make different play resources that can be used as teaching aids and as toys for the children to play with. This training equipped the teachers to always have creative and imagination building recourses for their crèches.

TREE and The Ilembe Chamber of Commerce are actively raising funds to begin the improvement and development of the crèches – empowering the ladies who work in them and providing a quality education for each child who attends. Local businesses or individuals can contribute to future building of these crèches and communities by contributing to the “Adopt a crèche” programme that will ensure each crèche is funded according to their needs. This will mean that 1302 children will be impacted through quality Early Childhood Development interventions; 29 practitioners will receive specialised ECD training and 400 households will benefit indirectly from the project. This partnership will be a platform for the community to take over a sustainable, working holistic development strategies for the children.  (Written by Terry Kass of TREE - Photos taken by Karen Horton, iLembe Chamber Woman in Business Forum)
